As the leading retailers of Harbeth speakers in the UK, here at Hi-Fi Corner we have taken the time to understand every speaker Harbeth manufactures. The Super HL5plus are intended for those out there who love their music and are looking for a very natural and uncoloured sound from their hi-fi system.
With the use of the Radial2 driver the Super HL5plus produces some of the best midrange you'll hear from any speaker at any price point. It excels at reproducing lifelike vocals that not only draws you into your music but takes to the performance. But what truly makes this speaker out perform its competitors, is how well this speaker is balanced.
The high frequency reproduction is handled by a 25mm tweeter and a 20mm super-tweeter and together they are able to reproduce the subtleties and nuances with beautiful delicacy and detail that will simply amaze you.
And for those of you out there who want a speaker with a bit of low end grunt, we are happy to report that the Super HL5plus are up to the challenge. The low end produced by the Radial2 driver is fast, potent, and engages the listener with its incredible timing and rhythmic pace.
The SHL5plus are intended for medium to large listening rooms; they will work in smaller rooms but the listener will have volume restrictions do to low frequency reflections also known as “bass boom”.
We recommend using the Super HL5plus with open-frame stands, like the Something Solid XF stands, rather than a top-plated stand. With an open-frame stand that has minimal contact to the bottom of the cabinet the speaker will be unrestricted and will perform at its best.
Alan Shaw and his team at Harbeth have created a truly wonderful speaker, and here at Hi-Fi Corner we love it.
