We are delighted to be one of only three exclusive UK dealers for Yamaha's new flagship NS-5000 monitor speakers. Drawing aesthetic similarities from the classic NS-10 and NS-1000's that were used in countless studios, Yamaha’s newest flagship product has been built from the ground up and features previously unseen technology.
Taking them out of the box the first thing which strikes you is their beautiful glossy black finish - the same one used for Yamaha’s world famous grand pianos. Constructed from laminated plywood made of white birch from the Japanese island of Hokkaido, it’s sourced ethically with environmental considerations, so you can sleep easy knowing these marvellous cabinet enclosures don't contribute to deforestation. This white birch was selected for its durability and acoustic properties, both of which were painstakingly tested by Yamaha's research and design team.
The drive units in each speaker are connected in single wiring with positive phase to bring an authentic listening session. Additionally, to minimise signal loss, the highest quality materials and technology were used for the network, such as the the pinnacle of audio-use capacitor, crafted by Mundorf in Germany. Also made by them is the attenuator, and the woofer coil.
What is most impressive, however, is the newly developed diaphragms for the drive units. Trading beryllium (an industry favourite) in favour of a new synthetic fibre that claims to be the most elastic and the world's strongest - Zylon. Here is what Yamaha had to say about their innovative design;
"The soft-dome diaphragm suppresses peaks and dips in the frequency response caused by the inherent resonance of the diaphragm, while taking advantage of ZYLON®'s high acoustic velocity comparable to that of beryllium, considered as the ideal diaphragm material for its hardness, lightweight (low density), and stiffness. The result is a remarkably flat frequency response, with unified tone colour and acoustic velocity over the entire frequency range, providing comfortable listening experience and meticulously accurate, superb sound reproduction of the highest degree."
While so far, we have only had a brief listening session out of the box with no run-in time for the drive units to warm up, these already sound beyond expectations and we look forward to a more extensive review after some rigorous testing.

Owning probably the only pair in Scotland, the NS-5000's will be available for demonstration imminently by appointment. Please get in touch for more information or to arrange a listen.
