Meet Their First Planar Magnetic Headphones

Quad have brought us many notable products over their long history, none more revered than the ESL loudspeakers. To create the ERA-1 planar magnetic headphones, Quad have developed their own driver to bring a fast, open and responsive reproduction of music. The sonic realism and fidelity is not dissimilar to the qualities present in their ESL's.
Unlike the more common dynamic driver headphones, planar magnetic drivers deliver a more natural sound, even frequency responses and a more accurate sound, which Quad claim means you will hear every small detail in your recorded music. They feature an electrically-active diapraghm which is thinner than a human hair but highly elastic and lightweight. This is designed to increase the level of sensitivity and the consistency of the applied forces over the driver.

The nature of many planar-magnetic headphones is that they need a high power amplifier to drive them. Quad have tried to reduce this, combining low impredance with high sensitivty, so that these headphones can be played and sound great over a variety of devices, from a high-end headphone amplifier to a portable music player or smartphone. As the name suggests, the ERA-1 matches very well with Quad's own PA-One headphone amp/DAC. They come equipped with both leather and fleece earpads, so maximum comfort is assured with their lightweight design.

The Quad Era-1 headphones will be available from late July, and are available for pre-order now.
We are looking forward to hearing the first attempt of headphones from Quad, and will update this post with a full review when we receive our first set for demonstration.
