Colin Visits NXT
NXT
means New Transducer Technology ('x' being an accepted abbreviation
of 'transducer').
NXT are famous for developing and licensing their flat speaker technology and I was therefore delighted and privileged to see around their facility in Huntingdon.
The building is a state of the art, purpose designed, research and development facility. It also houses some of the company's offices, training and presentation suites.
The photo (right) is me trying to find some dust in the workshop. The building is kept scrupulously clean and I questioned whether the tools were there just for show!
There are two large garage doors which allow cars to be brought into the facility. The flat panel technology is ideally suited to in-car loudspeakers. Whilst I was there an expensive Mercedes was being dismantled and looked as if it had been savaged by the world's worst car radio thief! The building has some excellent listening facilities as well as an anechoic chamber.
NXT can build samples of almost any product they wish in the building, but it is not a production plant. They license the technology to other manufacturers to make. In amongst some experimental high-end speakers which were demonstrated to me, I heard the new TDK "49 bucks" flat speakers for computer/bedroom/kitchen. An amazing value for money sound! They are also developing flat speaker technology for computer screens, public address and other applications. Many thanks to Director, Jon Vizor (right) for showing me around, being my taxi driver and cook for the evening! Your feedback on NXT technology here. Visit the NXT site.
